"Det er typisk norsk å være god"
Today is the Norwegian national day, and we've been celebrating it by eating a huge strawberry and cream cake and drinking hot chocolate for breakfast. I've tried to speak Norwegian all day, which has caused some amusement. The quote above is from former Norwegian prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland and translates into something like "It's typically Norwegian to be good". She isn't without humour. :-)

Partying in City of God
Yesterday, I went with the guys from the hostel to a party in the favela Cidade de Deus, also known as City of God. It wasn't as scary as you might think. Actually, it was a really, really good party. Strangely, MTV was there. We got interviewed about what it was like to be at a party in a favela. We'll see if they show it sometime soon. :-)

Still in Rio...
This place seems to be magnetic. It's impossible to leave!! There were a few days with bad weather, so we (some guys from New Zealand, some Norwegians and I) decided to put Ilha Grande off for a couple of days. Today the sun was shining, so we didn't want to sit in a bus all day. We went to the beach, played paddleball and got hammered (as the Kiwi guys say) by the waves. :-) It was really cool. Now I guess the plan is to stay here for a couple more days and then go to São Paulo and maybe the huge Iguaçu Falls. We'll see.
