Fun fact on fire stations
Ever wondered why some fire stations have towers? You think it is to keep a lookout?
Nope, the tower was used to dry the hoses after they have been used. If the hoses were rolled together in wet condition, the cotton cover would go mouldy.
Today, the cover is made of a synthetic material which does not require drying.
